Sidney freshman no-hits Walton in softball

Damian Zimmer drove in Billy Kozak and scored on a fielder’s choice to give Sidney (4-0, 2-0) a two-run lead in the first inning of its Midstate Athletic Conference road win.

Host Walton (0-2, 0-2) tied it in the third but gave up three unearned runs in the fourth on no hits.

Trevor Zandt and Joe Sinistore had two hits apiece and Abel Clark pitched a complete game for Walton, which plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Delhi.

Margaretville 11, Roxbury 3

Matt VanValkenburg scored three runs on three hits and two walks to lead Margaretville (2-1, 0-1) to a non-league victory at home.

The Blue Devils opened a six-run advantage in the first inning on three singles, four walks and a dropped third strike that extended the inning.

Kyle Short struck out nine over four innings for Margaretville before VanValkenburg took over in the fifth. VanValkenburg retired nine Roxbury batters, including three strikeouts and five comebackers.

Ethan Bush went 2-for-2 with three RBIs off the bench for the Blue Devils. Eric Mathiesen and Cooper Reither also had two hits apiece.

Sam Nash had two hits for Roxbury (2-1, 0-1), which hosts the Blue Devils in a Delaware League game Friday.
