Oneonta High graduate Taylor Trombley and Anna Sweet earned victories for Hartwick College’s equestrian team during the Morrisville Intercollegiate horse show this past weekend.
The Hawks placed fourth Saturday with 35 points and finished third Sunday with 32 points.
On Saturday, Trombley placed first in intermediate fences. Sweet was first in walk-trot-canter.
The Hawks had four winners Sunday.
Julia Ready won the intermediate flat division. Michelle O’Dell placed first in novice fences, and Daryl Orend and Ashley Zizzo were first in walk-trot-canter and walk-trot, respectively.
Hartwick will travel to Skidmore on Saturday.
Hartwick College senior Brad Ranson earned Empire 8 Conference Swimmer of the Week honors.
Ranson helped the Hawks to a victory over Oneonta State on Saturday with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 45.70 seconds), the 50 free (21.94) and the 100 free (48.48), as well as helping Hartwick’s 800 free relay to victory in a pool record time of 7:14.54.
On Sunday against Rensselaer, Ranson won the 50 free (21.56) and the 100 free (47.78), and swam a leg on the Hawks’ winning 200 free relay team that touched in 1:28.41.
Hartwick (7-0) will travel to Clinton this weekend for a quad meet with Hamilton, Ithaca and Geneseo.
Hartwick sophomore wide receiver Tanner Williams was named the Empire 8 Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week, the second time this season he’s earned the honor.
Williams averaged 11.8 yards on four punt returns and recovered an onsides kick that sealed Hartwick’s 21-10 victory over Utica on Saturday. Williams also caught seven passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
For the season, Williams has averaged better than 10 yards on punt returns to go along with catching 56 passes for 783 yards on seven touchdowns.
Hartwick is 6-4.
Hartwick freshman guard Joey Lufkin was named the Empire 8 Conference’s Rookie of the Week.
Lufkin scored 19 points in Hartwick’s opener, an 89-73 victory over Ursinus on Friday. He followed with a 27-point night that included five three-pointers in a 76-75 loss to Messiah College.
Hartwick (1-1) will travel to Wells College at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Hartwick senior Megan Lefeber was one of 32 players selected to the Division III North Atlantic Region squad by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Lefeber earned Second Team status. It marks the sixth straight year has had at least one player named to the all-region team.
Last week, Lefeber was named Empire 8 Conference’s First Team.
She started every game for the Hawks this season. Over four seasons, she had three goals and 10 assists.
Cobleskill athlete of week
Freshman cross-country runner Evan Quinones was selected as SUNY Cobleskill’s athlete of the week.
Quinones placed 20th in a 275-runner field in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday at Letchworth State Park.
He completed the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 37.5 seconds to help the Fighting Tigers to a 24th-place finish.
Quinones’ finish qualified him for the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at Hanover College in Indiana. Quinones is the first Cobleskill athlete to qualify for nationals.
