YMCA swimming tryouts Tuesday

The Oneonta YMCA Orcas will hold tryouts for their swimming team at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Oneonta Family YMCA on Ford Ave.

The Orcas also will host a parent orientation and an information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the YMCA.

Youth conditioning classes set

The Oneonta Family YMCA will offer Youth Sports Conditioning at the Center Street School gym from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The program is open to area youths in grades 6 through age 18 and runs through Dec. 13.

Registration is required and there is a $20 application fee. To sign up, visit the YMCA at 20 Ford Ave. in Oneonta. For more information, call 432-0010 or visit the website www.oneontaymca.org.

Bowling leagues have openings

The Cobleskill Bowling Center has openings for its fall leagues.

The center is accepting bowlers for its men’s, women’s, mixed, seniors and juniors leagues.

Hall film festival starts Friday

The eighth annual Baseball Hall of Fame Film Festival will run Friday through Sunday at the Cooperstown shrine.

The festival will start at 7 p.m. Friday in the Grandstand Theater with a screening of Legendary Entertainment’s “42,” which details how Jackie Robinson became the first modern African-American to break into the big leagues.

Ten other films will be featured during the festival. Tickets are free but limited and must be reserved. Films shown during regular business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m. after Labor Day) require a paid admission to the Hall.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

Saturday (Session 1, 10 a.m.): Cards Against the Wall; The Renegades: A Beep Ball Story.
