Hartwick women tie Elmira in soccer

STAFF REPORT

Angela Luizzi and Allyson Daniels scored second-half goals for host Hartwick College during a 2-2 women’s soccer tie against Empire 8 Conference rival Elmira on Wednesday.

With about 16 minutes left in regulation, Daniels finished a crossing pass from Cristina Sicari to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

But with 1:45 left, Emily Kelly scored for the Soaring Eagles to tie it. She received a long throughball from Janine Swanson before beating Hawks keeper Hope Brown.

Luizzi opened the scoring 1:25 into the second half on a shot to the far post from outside the 18-yard penalty box.

Elmira (3-3-1) tied it 11 minutes later when Kelly set up Mollie Hamilton from close range.

Oneonta High graduate Cami Cleaveland and Schenevus grad Jayme Bentley each took one shot for the Hawks, who outshot Elmira, 16-9. Amanda Banner made 11 saves for Elmira, nine more than Hope.

Hartwick (3-2-3) will host Nazareth at 2 p.m. Saturday.

So. Vermont 1, Cobleskill 0

Kaitlyn Forant scored on an 18-yard shot in the 72nd minute to lift visiting Southern Vermont (1-5-1) to a non-conference victoty.

Hayley MacLean had five saves for SUNY Cobleskill (0-7), which will host Penn State Abington at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Delhi 4, FM 0

Mackenzie Ferguson scored twice, and Lauren Renaud and Samantha St. Denis also scored as SUNY Delhi earned a Mountain Valley Conference win over visiting Fulton Montgomery Community College.

The Broncos (4-3, 1-1) held a 29-0 advantage in shots.

MEN’S SOCCER

ACP 7, Cobleskill 0

Zach Hecox had three goals and one assist to lead Albany College of Pharmacy to a non-conference victory at home.

Hecox scored or assisted on Albany College of Pharmacy’s first four goals as the hosts took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

ACP improved to 5-3.

The Fighting Tigers (0-6) took 10 shots on goal, including two apiece from JC Barrientos and Mark Gaetano.

Cobleskill will host Penn State Abington at 1 p.m. Saturday.
