Sidney volleyball sweeps Unatego

Alyssa Cranston finished with six kills and four blocks to lead host Sidney to a 25-21, 25-28, 25-21 Midstate Athletic Conference volleyball victory over visiting Unatego on Wednesday.

Jilleen Livingston contributed five aces and three digs, and teammate Taylor Krom finished with six kills for the Warriors, who received 11 assists from Paige Redmond.

Marissa Woodard finished with three digs and two blocks, and teammate Kassie Mckee had five kills for Unatego (3-6), which will visit Deposit on Tuesday.

Sidney (7-1) will host Greene on Friday.

Oneonta 3, CV 1

Brittney Herrick finished with 18 kills, 11 digs and two blocks to lead visiting Oneonta High to a 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21 Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory.

Teammate Krissy Wells had a match-high 34 assists and Rachel Griffing contributed four aces for the Yellowjackets.

Maggie Gross paced Chenango Valley with three aces and six blocks.

Oneonta (6-1) will play at Chenango Forks at 6 p.m. Friday.

SWIMMING

Madison Beckemeyer placed first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle to lead Oneonta to a 97-69 non-league win over visiting Greene.

Beckemeyer won the 200 IM in 2:38.13 and completed the 500 free in 6:24.08.

Teammate Madison Allen touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.84 and Ceili Getman finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:21.20.

Oneonta (4-1) will host Susquehanna Valley on Friday.

CROSS COUNTRY

at Poland

Sophomore Kristin Ratliff eased to an individual victory as Cooperstown’s girls went 3-1 in a Center State Conference meet.

Ratliff completed the 2.95-course in 20 minutes, 10 seconds, good for a 1:11 victory over teammate Samantha Fanion.

“She’s a good athlete and she competes well,” Cooperstown coach Jessie Ravage said of Ratliff.

Cooperstown beat Poland, 22-25, and also earned wins over incomplete squads from Oriskany and Westmoreland. The top five runners from Cooperstown and Sauquoit Valley finished tied at 28, but Sauquoit Valley earned the victory as its sixth runner beat Cooperstown’s sixth runner.

Cooperstown’s boys went 2-3, beating incomplete teams from Westmoreland and West Canada Valley, and falling to Poland (21-35), Sauquoit Valley (15-49) and Oriskany (25-30).

Freshman Daniel Francis paced Cooperstown with a ninth-place finish. He crossed in 19:51. Teammate Connor Fay finished 14th in 20:16.

Cooperstown will compete the EJ Hermann Invitational on Saturday at Proctor Park in Utica.

GOLF

Dan Marino shot a 2-over-par 36 to lead unbeaten Windham to a 170-206 Delaware League victory over Jefferson.

Ed Moran contributed a 43 for the Warriors (10-0, 7-0), who will travel to Gilboa on Oct. 10.

James Quagliano shot a 47 to lead Jefferson.
