Morris boys edge Laurens in Tri-Valley League

Mike Murphy scored the decisive goal in the first half Thursday and Morris held on for a 1-0 boys soccer victory over visiting Laurens in the Tri-Valley League.

Murphy scored on a 15-yard shot with 13 minutes, 1 second left before halftime. Left unmarked inside the box, he took a pass from Mike Silicato and shot inside the near post for the early lead.

Aidan Staib made five saves in the shutout for the Mustangs (5-2, 5-2), who finished with a 21-6 advantage in shots.

Zach Schinski had 14 saves to keep Laurens close.

Morris (5-2, 5-2) visits Schenevus today.

Edmeston 7, Worcester 0

Linton Wainright scored two goals and had three assists to lead host Edmeston to a win in the Tri-Valley League.

Freshman Austin Plows scored from inside the box, off a pass from Wainright, five minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.

Wainright later converted a pass from Jordan Cornnell for a 2-0 lead that the Panthers took into halftime.

Wainright, Plows, Austin Axtell, Clayton Lyon and Logan Vibbard scored in the second half for Edmeston (5-3, 4-3), which hosts Richfield Springs today.

Riley Powers made 10 saves for Worcester.

Sidney 4, Oxford 2

Justin Charles scored three goals to lead visiting Sidney to a win in the MAC.

Oxford’s Matt Moore scored from 18 yards six minutes into the game, but Charles followed with three consecutive goals before halftime.

Anthony Ruling scored in the second half for Sidney, which gave up two goals to Matt Moore of Oxford (1-8, 1-7).

The Warriors visit Walton on Saturday.

B-G 3, Delhi 2

Kyle Hanvey scored for visiting Bainbridge-Guilford, which took advantage of two own goals by Delhi for a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

Mitch Reed scored in each half for the Bulldogs, who lost despite outshooting the Bobcats, 16-8.

Greene 5, Afton 0

Luke Day finished with a goal and an assist to lead visiting Greene to a MAC victory.

Scott Lord, Karl Zaengle and Day each scored inside the first 10 minutes en route to a 3-0 lead for Greene at halftime.

Conner Moriarity and Marcus Lindstrom made one save apiece in the combined shutout for the Trojans, who had advantages of 24-9 in shots and 12-1 in corner kicks.

Matt Olin had 11 saves and Kyle Hinman contributed three for the Crimson Knights (1-5-1, 1-5-1), who host Unatego on Saturday.

Walton 3, UV 0

Jared Beach and Chad Swartwout each had a goal and an assist to lead host Walton to its third straight victory in the MAC.

Swartwout scored unassisted on a 25-yard shot nine minutes into the game. He then set up Beach for a goal to the far post from inside the box with 5:21 left before halftime.

Beach assisted Nate Pieper a little more than two minutes later for a goal that gave Walton a 3-0 cushion at the break.

Dylan Walley (seven saves) and Dan Cucciarre (one save) combined on the shutout for the Warriors (8-2, 6-2), who host Sidney on Monday.
