Yellowjackets run past Ithaca for first victory, 33-28

BOYS SOCCER

UV 2, B-G 1

Brothers David and Derrick Schwab scored to lead host Unadilla Valley to the championship in the first Unadilla Valley Kick for the Cure Tournament.

Derrick Schwab earned his first varsity goal on a corner-kick play, scoring midway through the first half off a header from older brother David.

Kyle Hanvey scored the equalizer eight minutes into the second half, splitting two defenders for an unassisted goal against UV keeper Kyle King (10 saves), who earned tournament MVP honors.

A B-G handball on a shot by Brendan Brooker inside the Storm’s box resulted in a penalty kick for UV later in the second half. David Schwab beat B-G goalie Brandt McCall (nine saves) on the pk for the decisive goal.

The tournament benefits the Danielle House at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

Margaretville 3, Delhi 2

Matt Van Valkenburg scored two goals, including the winner with 1:30 left in the first overtime, to lead visiting Margaretville to a win in the Delaware League.

Van Valkenburg shot to the far post from 18 yards, assisted by Victor Sarabia. Van Valkenburg also scored on a header from six yards, off a pass from Cooper Reither five minutes into the game. Roberto Sarabia contributed a second-half goal for the Blue Devils (12-0), who host Middleburgh today.

Mitch Reed and Will Merrill each scored for Delhi (6-5, 6-4), which hosts Sidney on Tuesday.

Morris 0, G-MU 0

Mike Murphy had five shots on goal as host Morris tied Gilbertsville-Mount Upton in the Tri-Valley League.

“We’re playing well, we’re just not getting enough quality shots,” Morris coach Dave Sander said.

Aidan Staib made two saves for Morris (6-3-2, 6-3-2), which hosts Edmeston on Tuesday.

Austin Burnside had 11 saves for G-MU.
