Hartwick men suffer 1-0 loss; Cobleskill runner sets course record

O-State will compete in the Hartwick Twilight 5K this Friday, then host the SUNYAC Championships on Nov. 2 at Fortin Park.

GMC Invitational

Evan Quinones set a course record Saturday at the Green Mountain College Invitational, covering the men’s 8K course in 25:02 to lead SUNY Cobleskill to its first invitational triumph of the season.

Dan Fields placed fourth out of 56 runners (25:48) and Zack Dockstader (Edmeston) was eighth in 26:29 for the Fighting Tigers, who won the eight-team meet with 49 points.

Taylor Tommell finished sixth out of 89 women for Cobleskill, which was third out of eight teams. Tommell completed the women’s 5K course in 20:34.

FIELD HOCKEY

SJF 1, Hartwick 0

Elizabeth Cusack scored in the 56th minute Saturday as St. John Fisher beat visiting Hartwick in the Empire 8 Conference.

The Cardinals (8-7, 4-2) finished with advantages of 14-2 in shots and 15-5 in penalty corners.

Shannon Carter stopped nine shots for Hartwick (4-11, 1-5). Danielle Forndaro made one save for Fisher.

Hartwick hosts Houghton this Saturday.

FOOTBALL

Alfred 49, Hartwick 28

Hartwick quarterback John Garcia threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns, but Hartwick lost an Empire 8 Conference game on the road Saturday.

Tanner Williams caught seven passes for 115 receiving yards and a touchdown for the Hawks, who got four catches, 119 yards and two TDs from Chris Hoose.

Richie Divirgilio amassed 14 tackles, Bryan Schweitzer had eight and R.J. Roth finished with seven and one sack for the Hawks (4-2, 1-2), who got 44 of their 48 rushing yards from Kevin Wahl.

Austin Dwyer’s 89 rushing yards and two TDs paced the Saxons (4-2, 2-1), who got 283 passing yards and three TD throws from Tyler Johnson.

Hartwick hosts Salisbury University this Saturday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

O-State 1, New Paltz 0

Kayla Distin scored in the 84th minute Saturday, lifting Oneonta State to a road victory in the SUNYAC.

The Hawks (2-11-3, 0-6-1) took their only shot on goal in the fourth minute, forcing O-State starting goalie Rori Stark to maker her only save.
