Jackets win 1st sectional volleyball title


OHS, which entered the Section Four Class C tournament this season, lost the last two Section Four Class B championship matches to Owego.

Oneonta (14-4): Brittney Herrick 13 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces, 2 digs; Krissy Wells 22 assists, 3 aces, 2 digs.

Section Three Championships

Cooperstown’s Kristin Ratliff and Samantha Fanion qualified for the state cross country meet with top-five finishes during the Section Three Championships, which ran Saturday at Jamesville Beach State Park.

Ratliff finished third, covering the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 45 seconds. Fanion followed in fifth, at 19:53. The duo helped Cooperstown to 123 points for a fourth-place team finish.

“Quite a good day,” said Cooperstown coach Jessie Ravage, who had two girls qualify for the state championships for the first time in her career.

Ratliff and Fanion will compete at states this Saturday at Queensbury High.

Daniel Francis finished 29th in 18:41 for Cooperstown’s boys, who were 12th with 333 points.

B-G 41, Oxford 20

Mike Carlin scored three touchdowns and Cole Webb threw for three scores in leading host Bainbridge-Guilford to a Section Four Football Conference non-division victory in its season-finale Friday.

Carlin caught a 16-yard scoring pass from Webb that gave the Bobcats a 6-0 lead. He also scored on runs of 3 and 7 yards. Carlin finished with 67 rushing yards and 59 receiving yards.

Webb went 6-for-7 for 110 passing yards.
