Afton stuns Hancock in baseball, 7-6

Schenevus 15, Worcester 0

Robert Burton struck out 11 and walked none in a two-hitter, and went 4-for-4 with three runs to lead host Schenevus in the Tri-Valley League.

Jacob Darling hit a three-run homer to left during the Dragons’ 10-run fourth inning. The game ended after five innings because of the mercy rule. Darling also reached base three times on hit-by-pitches.

Zach Schallert had two hits for Schenevus (2-1, 2-0), which will play host to Cherry Valley-Springfield on Monday.

George Clements had both of Worcester’s hits.

Laurens 7, Morris 0

Mitchell Barra struck out nine and walked three in a two-hitter as Laurens opened the season with a Tri-Valley League win at home.

“He was pretty efficient,” Laurens coach Josh Nelligan said of Barra, whose RBI double highlighted a five-run fourth inning for the Leopards. “I think he only threw 84 pitches.”

Dustin Clark (RBI) and Cordell Cimko singled for Laurens, which took advantage of six Morris errors.

Sam Ernst singled in the third inning for the Mustangs (0-1, 0-1), who received a single from Robert Child.

Laurens hosts a non-league game against Hancock at 11 a.m. Saturday.

LM 6, Downsville 1

Brad Dreher had an RBI double in the third inning and Dylan Fisk finished with two hits for Downsville, which lost a non-leaguer in its season opener.

Joe Cubero’s RBI groundout in the third gave Livingston Manor a 2-1 lead.

Downsville will host Hunter-Tannersville today.

LACROSSEWP 12, Oneonta 9

Sam Sherrill scored four times, but host Oneonta High lost a Section Four game to Whitney Point at Oneonta State.

Jeremy Leary contributed two goals and two assists for the Yellowjackets (0-2), who received two goals from Luke Anderson and one from Jake Crotser.

Joe Sherrill stopped 21 shots for OHS, which faced a 6-5 halftime deficit but gave up six goals in the third period.
