Local swimmers place seventh
Oneonta Aqua Danse club members Caitlyn Bhend, Samantha Ficano, Remy Kane and Sevran Kane finished seventh in their age-group during the East Zone Synchronized Swimming Invitational, which ran March 28-30 at Union College.
The local quartet, who attended the event for the first time, competed in the 13-and-over team routine competition.
Nearly 200 swimmers from New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut clubs participated.
Bhend, Ficano and the Kanes will compete in the Adirondack Association Championships, which run May 10-11 at Hartwick College.
Softball league starts April 30
The Clark Sports Center is accepting registrations for its 2014 Co-Ed Softball League, which starts April 30.
A captains’ meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Cost is $400 per team and all participants must be ages 18 or older and out of high school.

O-State to celebrate D-III Week
Division III Week begins Monday and Oneonta State has a full lineup of events planned.
O-State and neighboring Hartwick College are among 448 Division III schools, which account for 40 percent of the programs in the NCAA.
O-State will start two days early as Red Dragons athletes will volunteer at a Special Olympics Basketball Super Regional from 8 a.m.-5p.m. Saturday at Tompkins Cortland Community College.
On Monday, O-State will offer giveaways from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Schumacher Hall. From 5-6 p.m. in the Alumni Fieldhouse Skybox, a seminar on nutrition for performance will be held.

seminar will run from 4-5 p.m., the Student Athletes for Equity seminar will go from 5-6 p.m. and former O-State wrestling standout Josh Wake – a Delhi graduate – will speak from 6-7 p.m. in the Student Athlete Career Spotlight. Wake is a Chief Financial Analyst for Chobani Yogurt.
