Stephanie El Safty scored four goals Sunday, leading 19th-ranked Hartwick College to a 22-8 Collegiate Water Polo Association women’s rout of visiting Gannon University.
Sami Capparelli and Britt Tait each contributed three goals for the Hawks (17-11, 3-1), who received two apiece from Ricci Ferigo, Anniek Hendriks, Kylie Traube and Cayley Tonkin. Devon Boyle, Katie Ermakova, Lily Gall and Jemma Dendy Young also scored for Hartwick, which jumped to a 2-0 lead and never trailed.
Bailey Gadd, Katelyn Jacobs and Janelle McDaniels had two goals apiece for Gannon, which faced a 12-4 halftime deficit.
On Saturday at Moyer Pool, Hartwick followed a 22-11 thumping of Notre Dame College with a 12-9 loss to 14th-ranked Indiana University.
Hartwick scored the first four goals of Saturday morning’s game against Notre Dame College en route to a 14-5 halftime lead.
Dendy Young’s five goals paced the Hawks, who received four from Ferigo. Ermakova and Capparelli contributed three goals apiece, Traube had two and Boyle, Katja Rocha, El Safty, Lara Dendy Young and Hendriks each scored once.
Gina-Bella Mata’afa scored five times to pace Notre Dame College.
Indiana scored five times in the opening quarter of the nightcap and held a 6-5 edge at halftime.
Tonkin and Lara Dendy Young each scored twice to pace Hartwick, which received goals from Capparelli, Tait, Boyle, Jemma Dendy Young and Ermakova. Jemma Dendy Young’s goal tied the score at 6 in the third quarter, but Rebecca Gerrity and Alexis Jones followed with back-to-back goals to put the Hoosiers back on top.
Shae Fournier’s four goals led Indiana, which outscored the Hawks, 4-2, in the final 6 minutes, 48 seconds.
Hartwick will close its regular season this weekend with four games in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Hawks will face Gannon and the University of Michigan on Saturday, then play Indiana and Notre Dame College on Sunday. The CWPA Championships will follow from April 25-27 in Lewisburg, Pa.
