Short secured the victory by throwing out Austin Lamica, who sent a two-strike bunt toward second.
Short, who walked three, followed a 15-strikeout performance in Margaretville’s opener by striking out 16 Downsville batters.
Short also hit a two-run single in the third inning to give the Blue Devils (2-0) a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles’ Brad Dreher walked and stole second in the fourth to set up an RBI single by Fisk. Downsville tied it in the fifth with two out as Matt Rampe walked, stole second, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on a passed ball.
Tallman struck out five, walked seven, hit a batter and gave up two runs on one hit in five innings. Dreher followed with a 1-2-3 sixth, striking out all three of his batters looking.
Margaretville visits Jefferson today for a non-league game.

Hunter Grace struck out 11 and walked three in a six-inning one-hitter as host Gilboa won a Delaware League game in the season opener for both teams.
Patrick Kuzma started the scoring with a two-run single in the first inning. Shawn VanValkenburg went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Zach Perry contributed two hits and an RBI for Gilboa, which hosts Hunter-Tannersville today.
Jefferson’s Hunter Minalga doubled in the sixth inning to break up Grace’s no-hit bid.

Winning pitcher Mike Clark struck out seven and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a homer to lead Edmeston to a Tri-Valley League road win.
Clark started a six-run rally with two out in the second inning with a two-run single.
Kyle King went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Panthers, who got two hits and two RBIs from Clayton Lyon.
Mason Weir and Cody White each finished 2-for-3 for the Leopards, who got 10 strikeouts from starting pitcher Mitchell Barra.
