Oneonta State fell behind early Thursday and dropped both games of a non-conference softball doubleheader to King’s College, 7-6 and 7-5.
King’s (18-8) started the opener with four runs in the first inning, but the Red Dragons (15-7) battled back to tie the score at 6. Katie O’Gorman capped O-State’s comeback with a grand slam in the third, but the Lady Monarchs scored the decisive run one inning later on an RBI single by Amy Kowalczyk.
Oneonta High graduate Seneca Baldwin followed with three innings of scoreless relief for Oneonta, matching the efforts of King’s starter Brittany Haight (7-0) over the last three innings.
O-State jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game as Traci Lichtenstein hit a three-run homer.
Brianna Rivera later made it 4-2 in favor of Oneonta with an RBI single in the fifth, but King’s took the lead for keeps with five runs in the seventh.
Nicole Marzillo capped the scoring with a home run in the bottom frame for the Red Dragons, who visit New Paltz for a SUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader today.
