Brock Eichler struck out nine Monday but allowed four runs in the sixth inning as Oneonta High lost a Southern Tier Athletic Conference baseball game, 4-2, at Chenango Valley.
“He was outstanding,” OHS coach Joe Hughes said of Eichler. “He deserved the victory today.”
The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning and extended it by a run when Peter Brunetta doubled home Bennett Eggler.
OHS then committed two of its three errors in the sixth, when Zach Cole’s two-run double sparked a four-run rally for the Warriors.
“It’s a tough loss,” said Hughes, whose team was coming off back-to-back one-run victories over Windsor and Seton Catholic Central on Saturday. “When we’re not scoring runs, it puts a lot of pressure on our pitching and defense to be perfect.”
Kragh Delello also doubled for Oneonta, which hosts a non-league game against Unatego on Wednesday.
Sidney 15, Delhi 1
Jon Gorshack and Alex Hoskins homered in an eight-run fourth inning for Sidney, which cruised to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory at Delhi’s American Legion Field.
Gorshack finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a two-run homer and a triple. Hoskins contributed a three-run homer in the fourth for the Warriors, who finished with 12 hits.
Winning pitcher Brandon Bessett took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Bessett, who struck out 11 and walked four, gave up a one-out single between shortstop and third base to Delhi catcher Tyler Cumpston that scored Kenz Mattice.
“Their pitcher threw a really nice game,” Delhi coach Luke Burns said.
The Bulldogs (1-5, 1-5) host a non-league game against Stamford on Thursday.
Afton 11, Deposit 9
Afton overcame two home runs by Dawson Dailey for a MAC victory at home.
Dailey hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning and another two-run homer in the sixth to help Deposit pull to 10-8.
