The North Eastern Athletic Conference selected SUNY Cobleskill senior Don Cervantes as its golfer of the week Monday.
Cervantes won the Cobleskill Spring Invitational with a 2-over-par 73 on Friday at the Canajoharie Country Club, leading the Fighting Tigers to a team triumph with 305 strokes.
Cervantes followed with a two-day total of 12-over-par 156 to place 13th out of 35 players at SUNY Delhi’s Bronco Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Cobleskill had 647 strokes to place third at the par-72 Delhi College Golf Course.
Cobleskill will compete in the Keuka Spring Invitational on Thursday at the par-72 Lakeside Country Club, which will host the NEAC Championships from April 25-26.
Hartwick College selected senior Jemma Dendy Young and sophomore Michaela Davies as its Hawks of the Week on Monday.
Dendy Young scored eight goals to help Hartwick to a 3-1 weekend record at the University of Michigan. She had a goal in Hartwick’s 17-4 rout of Gannon, then scored four in a 12-9 defeat of 18th-ranked Michigan on Saturday. The next day, Dendy Young scored twice in a 12-6 loss to No. 14 Indiana and had a goal in an 18-6 defeat of Notre Dame College.
Davies had a college-best 19 saves in the Hawks’ victory over Michigan, which marked their second of the season over the Wolverines. Davies missed the program record by two saves stopped 68 percent of the shots she faced.
Cobleskill selected sophomore pitcher Erin Wadsworth as its athlete of the week Monday.
Wadsworth went 2-1 in the circle last week with a 0.64 ERA. She struck out 34 and walked four in 22 innings.
Right-hander Wadsworth is 3-2 with a 3.18 ERA this season. She has 51 strikeouts and 12 walks in 34 innings.
The Fighting Tigers (4-6, 3-3) host a non-conference doubleheader against Southern Vermont today.
Oneonta State raised more than $1,300 during its “Strikeout Cancer” fundraiser this past weekend.
All of the money donated during its three-game series against Oswego will be sent to the American Cancer Society for the Strikeout Cancer Fund, which supports cancer research and education.
