April snow postpones three games

STAFF REPORT

If the sight of snow falling in mid-April was surprising to some, the fact that Tuesday’s light local high school sports schedule was wiped out by the wintry conditions should have surprised no one.

Two baseball games and a lacrosse game on the local schedule were postponed.

Oneonta High’s lacrosse game at Owego was rescheduled for Friday.

Bainbridge-Guilford’s Midstate Athletic Conference baseball game at Deposit and Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Tri-Valley League baseball game against visiting Laurens also were postponed. Laurens and G-MU will try to play today. There’s no make up date yet for the B-G/Deposit game.

One event scheduled for today has been postponed. Oneonta’s non-league baseball game against visiting Unatego has been moved to 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Brandon Bessett went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but Sidney lost a non-league game at Sauquoit Valley on Monday.

The Warriors (4-2) faced a 4-2 deficit in the seventh inning but put runners at second and third with one out. Jon Gorshack then singled home Bill Kozak, but Bessett was thrown out at the plate for the second out. The game ended with a groundout.

Zak Green threw a six-hitter for the Warriors, who host Sherburne-Earlville at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.
