Justin Baxter’s second-half goal led visiting Downsville to a 3-2 Delaware League boys soccer victory over host Davenport on Thursday.
“There was congestion in the box and he crossed the ball to the post,” Davenport coach Deb Moorby said of Baxter, who also scored in the first half. “It got past my fullback and my goalie couldn’t get to it.”
Nick Shaw opened the scoring for the Eagles, but Mike Libby quickly countered for the Wildcats.
Baxter then put Downsville ahead on a long direct kick with six minutes left in the first half. Kyle Moorby scored on a penalty kick one minute later, though, as the teams headed into halftime tied at 2.
Davenport (9-3-1, 4-2-1) is at South Kortright on Wednesday.
Margaretville 3, Windham 1
Margaretville clinched the Upper Delaware Division with a home win in Delaware League play.
Matt VanValkenburg, Cooper Reither and Kyle Short scored for the Blue Devils, who hold a 2½-game lead on Davenport with two games left in the regular season.
“Windham played well tonight. They played us very tough,” Margaretville coach Jeremey Marks said. “They are much improved.”
Anthony Savasta scored for the Warriors.
Margaretville (12-0-1, 7-0) hosts Downsville on Wednesday.
SK 7, Jefferson 0
Trevor Holdridge had three goals and an assist as South Kortright cruised to a Delaware League victory at home.
Jefferson was scheduled to host the game, but its field was unplayable. The game was then moved to SK, which played as the visiting team.
Senior sweeper Randy Post scored his first varsity goal for SK (10-3, 6-1), which hosts Davenport on Wednesday.
Roxbury 2, Stamford 0
Spencer Hinckley and Kris Walcutt scored first-half goals to lead host Roxbury to a Delaware League win.
Walcutt also had an assist on Hinckley’s goal, setting him up from the end line on a pass to the 6-yard mark 90 seconds into the game.
