Two Hawks recognized
Hartwick junior guard Maria Foglia and freshman forward Brittney Dumas earned Empire 8 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for women’s basketball on Tuesday.
Foglia was the E8’s top player for the second time, the first coming Dec. 10.
She averaged 19 points in the Hawks’ last two games of the Cruzin Classic at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Foglia shot 48 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range, and 83 percent from the free-throw line in the two games.
In a 61-49 victory over Randolph-Macon, Foglia scored her season-high of 25 points. She made 7 of 11 of her shots from the floor, 3 of 4 from three-point range and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She also had four steals. Two days later in a 56-50 loss to Mary Washington, she scored 13 points, including three three-pointers. Foglia also had four assists and two steals.
Foglia leads Hartwick in scoring and assists this season. She is second on the team in three-point shots and steals.
Dumas earned her second top rookie award, her first coming Dec. 3.
She averaged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the floor for the Hawks in Florida.
Dumas opened the tournament with her college-high of 17 points. She also had eight rebounds against Randolph-Macon. She shot 7 of 11 from the floor, made her only three-point attempt and both of her free-throw attempts. She also had two steals, one block and one assist.
Two days later, she scored eight points and contributed her college-best of four steals to go along with three rebounds against Mary Washington.
Dumas leads the Hawks in field-goal percentage and blocks, is second in rebounding and third in scoring this season.
