The West End Archery is accepting sign-ups for its 13-week Winter Techno Hunt League, which starts today.

Afton to fight cancer
Afton Central School will host a Coaches vs. Cancer basketball event to benefit the American Cancer Society on Tuesday.
The Crimson Knights will host a quadruple-header against Sidney beginning with junior varsity boys and girls games at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls will meet at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
Fans will receive cancer awareness stickers and pin-up cards for the Wall of Hope will be available for a $1 donation. The event also will feature 50/50 raffles and a half-court shooting contest.

Volleyball starts this week
The Oneonta Recreation Department’s men’s and women’s volleyball leagues will begin play at the Asa C. Allison Municipal building this week.
The building is on the corner of Fairview and Academy streets in Oneonta. Men will play Tuesdays beginning this Tuesday, and women will play Wednesdays starting this Wednesday. The regular season will consist of 10 games and be followed by a postseason tournament.

Hunting courses in January
West End Archery will host a bowhunter education course from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Davenport Fire Department will host a New York State Hunter Education Course from 5:30-9 p.m. Jan. 14, 16 and 17.
Class size is limited to 25 students. Participants must be age 11 or older. To register, call Losie’s Gun Shop at 607-432-6452.
Basketball leagues start soon
The Oneonta Family YMCA is accepting sign-ups for its 30-and-over and 50-and-over basketball leagues.
Instructional meetings will run Wednesday at 6 p.m. (50-and-over) and 7 p.m. (30-and-over).

O-State Kids Day is Jan. 19
Oneonta State will host its third annual Kids in Sports Day at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 at Alumni Field House.
The day will be split into two sessions with a break for lunch and conclude at 1:45 p.m. with a question-and-answer featuring Red Dragons student-athletes. Soccer, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse and field hockey are the featured sports this year.
The event is free for children ages 4-13. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Children should wear appropriate athletic clothing, including sneakers, and bring a lunch and a drink.

Youth soccer forms due March 1
Registration forms for the Oneonta Youth Soccer Association’s spring recreational program will be distributed through Oneonta elementary schools and are due March 1. Forms also are available at Latte Lounge on Main Street in Oneonta.

Rat Snake registration open
Registration is open for the 2013 Rat Snake, a triathlon held in honor of the late Dr. Ken Stalter.
The event, which is scheduled for May 18, will feature professional timing. The triathlon/team triathlon will begin at 7 a.m., followed by the trail run at 10 a.m. and the 3-kilometer jog/stroll at noon.
The triathlon and trail run will be limited to 100 participants. The team triathlon will be limited to 10 teams.
