Struggles continue for Hartwick men

Hartwick College’s men have qualified for the past two NCAA Division III basketball tournaments, but it seems unlikely the Hawks will make it three straight.

Hartwick allowed 47 second-half points and lost, 82-54, to visiting St. John Fisher on Friday in the Empire 8 Conference.

The loss dropped the Hawks to 7-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Anthony Keane scored 11 points for Hartwick, which received nine points from Jared Suderley, who shot 3-for-15 from the floor. Rob Heller contributed eight points and Laurens graduate Aaron Laing had seven, on 3-for-4 shooting from the field.

Justin Plata's 17 points led Fisher (9-5, 4-1), which shot 31-for-56 from the field.

Hartwick will host Alfred University at 4 p.m. Saturday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Hartwick 65, Fisher 52

Brittney Dumas and Maria Foglia scored 18 points and went a combined 14-for-20 from the floor in leading host Hartwick to an Empire 8 Conference victory.

Dumas went 8-for-10 from the floor.

Kate Purcell contributed 14 points and five assists for the Hawks (10-3, 3-0), who led, 34-25, at halftime.

Camaryn Buckner had 19 points to lead St. John Fisher (5-9, 2-3).

Hartwick will host Alfred University at 2 p.m. Saturday.
