The Jackets will compete in the Section Four State Qualifiers on Feb. 23 at Cornell University. The top two finishers in each non-relay event will qualify for states, along with those who have already met the state standards and place third Feb. 23. Only the winning team in each relay will qualify for states.
Section Four C-D
Eddie Cotton and Collin Brandl won Section Four Class C-D boys championships, as did Julia Knapp and Samantha Mullineaux on Friday at Cornell.
Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Cotton won the 55 in 6.89 seconds and placed second in the long jump, at 19-10.25. Brandl won the shot put at 45-1 for Sidney, which got a second from Aaron McCarroll, Ethan Green, Dean Howard and Nate Magnussen in the 800 relay (1:38.36). Brandl edged Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton’s Pedro Aparicio by .75 inches for first in the shot put.
Knapp gave B-G/A a win in the 55 hurdles (8.74) and a second in the long jump (16-8.75). She also anchored the Bears 1,600 relay team to a runner-up finish in 4:32.66.
Mullineaux won the shot put at 31-2.5, 1-2.5 ahead of Sidney teammate Cindy Kaptan. The Warriors also received a second from Rachel Gibbs in the 3,000 (12:14.33).
