Marissa Segretto scored once in each half Wednesday to lead host Mount St. Mary to a 2-0 women’s soccer victory over Hartwick College in an ECAC Metro Tournament first-round game.
Hartwick, the seventh seed, finishes its season at 8-8-3.
The second-seeded Knights held a 26-4 advantage in shots.
Segretto opened the scoring in the 29th minute. She beat a defender to the right side before sliding a shot past Hawks goalie Annie Millar, who finished with seven saves.
In the second half, Mount St. Mary had four shots deflect off the cross bar before Segretto scored again with about three minutes left.
Cristina Sicari, Jessica Bentley (Schenevus), Allyson Daniels and Kylie Thayer all took shots for the Hawks, who’ll graduate three seniors, Jessica and sister Jayme Bentley, and Sicari.
The Knights will face third-seeded Kean University in the semifinals this weekend.
Hartwick College senior Maria Foglia was selected to the D3Hoops.com Preseason All-America Fourth Team.
Foglia is one of 20 players nationally in Division III to be recognized on the four teams.
A D3Hoops.com All-East Region selection and the 2013 Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year, Foglia ranked in the top five in 10 categories among E8 players last season.
She led the conference in free throws made, game played, games started and minutes played. She was second in three-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, points scored and minutes per game. Foglia ranked third in three-pointers made and fourth in assists.
Last season, Foglia became the 12th player in Hartwick history to score 1,000 points. She’s 10th on Hartwick’s scoring list with 1,120 points.
Foglia helped Hartwick to an ECAC Division III Women’s Metro title last March, which marked the first postseason appearance for Hartwick since 1999. She was named the tournament’s MVP after averaging 18.3 points over three games.
