April 5 fundraiser for guys only

Girls on the Run of Central New York will host a Guys Night Out at Brewery Ommegang from 6-9:30 p.m. April 5.

This guys-only event is designed to create awareness of the program and to raise funds to support the nonprofit organization, which provides a transformational learning program for girls in grades 3-8. GOTR CNY serves approximately 750 girls annually across Otsego, Chenango, Delaware, Montgomery, Herkimer and Schoharie counties.

Brewery Ommegang will provide VIP treatment for all attendees with a tour of the brewery, a beer tasting with complimentary glass, and a four-course dinner in Cafe Ommegang. There will be a silent auction with many items donated by local businesses.

Crystal Palace Barber Shop from Oneonta also will attend, providing authentic barber shop hot towel facial massages. Complimentary transportation, from Double Day parking lot in Cooperstown to and from the brewery, is included with each ticket.

Tickets cost $100 apiece and must be purchased in advance. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit GOTR CNY.

A total of 70 tickets are available for purchase. They are available online via PayPal at, by calling Sherrie Kingsley at 607-264-3377 or Sally Trosset at 607-435-1985, or by visiting Matt Grady at Stagecoach Coffee in Cooperstown.

BASE Race set for Aug. 11

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host the second annual BASE Race on Aug. 11.

The event features a competitive 10K race at 8 a.m. and a family-style 5-kilometer run at 8:15 a.m. Both events start and finish at the CSC.

Registration is $25 for adults and $50 for families until race day, when registration will be $40 for individuals and $65 for families.

Proceeds support outreach for the “Be A Superior Example” program, which promotes the concepts of healthy lifestyle choices by educating students about the dangers of performance-enhancing substances.
