April 5 fundraiser for guys only
Girls on the Run of Central New York will host a Guys Night Out at Brewery Ommegang from 6-9:30 p.m. April 5.
This guys-only event is designed to create awareness of the program and to raise funds to support the nonprofit organization, which provides a transformational learning program for girls in grades 3-8. GOTR CNY serves approximately 750 girls annually across Otsego, Chenango, Delaware, Montgomery, Herkimer and Schoharie counties.
Brewery Ommegang will provide VIP treatment for all attendees with a tour of the brewery, a beer tasting with complimentary glass, and a four-course dinner in Cafe Ommegang. There will be a silent auction with many items donated by local businesses.
Crystal Palace Barber Shop from Oneonta also will attend, providing authentic barber shop hot towel facial massages. Complimentary transportation, from Double Day parking lot in Cooperstown to and from the brewery, is included with each ticket.
Tickets cost $100 apiece and must be purchased in advance. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit GOTR CNY.

BASE Race set for Aug. 11
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host the second annual BASE Race on Aug. 11.
The event features a competitive 10K race at 8 a.m. and a family-style 5-kilometer run at 8:15 a.m. Both events start and finish at the CSC.
Registration is $25 for adults and $50 for families until race day, when registration will be $40 for individuals and $65 for families.
Proceeds support outreach for the “Be A Superior Example” program, which promotes the concepts of healthy lifestyle choices by educating students about the dangers of performance-enhancing substances.

CSC offering spring-break pass
The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown is offering a one-week pass during spring break for $15 per person.
The pass is valid from Monday through Friday next week for all ages and is non-transferable with no refunds. This pass does not include fees for the Fitness Center or open bowling. Passes may be purchased at the main desk.
The week of activities includes the following morning programs for youths.
Monday: Rock 'n Bowl, 9-10:30 a.m.; Preschool Play, 9-10:30 a.m.; Gladiators, 11 a.m.-noon.
Tuesday: Running Miles for Ice Cream (indoor track), 9-10:30 a.m.; Double Float, 10-11 a.m.
Wednesday: Preschool Play, 9-10:30 a.m.; Home Run Hitting Contest (gym floor), 11 a.m.-noon.
Thursday: Dodgeball, 9-10:30 a.m.; Luau in the Pool, 10-11 a.m.
Daily programs available are open swimming (10-11 a.m., 1-5 p.m., 6-7:30 p.m.); open racquets (5:30-9:30 p.m.; open gym (1-5 p.m.); and open bowling (1-5 p.m.).

O-State to host soccer camp
The Oneonta State men’s soccer team will host an indoor/outdoor soccer camp from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Cost is $80 per camper or $20 per day. Registration will take place at Alumni Field House. All pick-ups and drop-offs will be at the same location.
The Chase pool will be available to those interested in swimming. Campers may purchase a pizza lunch at $4 per day.
Designed for boys and girls in grades 1-8, the camp serves as a fundraiser for the men’s team.

Colonial Ridge to hold meetings
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will hold organizational meetings for its Tuesday Night Men's Golf League at 5:30 p.m. this Tuesday and for its Wednesday Night Men's Golf League at 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday.
Leagues run from the first week in April until the third week of September, weather permitting. All Colonial Ridge Golf leagues are open to the public, with weekly league fees of $7 for non-members.
The leagues feature two-person teams and multiple flights per night, with staggered tee times. The A Flight plays from 2:30-3:30 p.m., followed by the B Flight (3:30-4:30), the C Flight (4-5), and the D Flight (4:30-5:30).

Delhi to offer lifeguard training
SUNY Delhi will offer Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding Training, AED, First Aid and CPR-FPR on Mondays and Wednesdays through May 6.
Classes will run from 6-9 p.m. There will be no classes on April 15 and 17.
Attendance at all sessions is required. Pre-screening the first night includes a 550-yard non-stop swim, a brick swim and retrieval, and a ring retrieval.
Class size is limited, with a minimum of six students. Cost is $270, including a $45 non-refundable deposit at registration. Remainder of fee is due the second day of class.
Delhi also will run a water exercise class from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 18-May 16. Cost is $30 for one day per week, $60 for two per week and $80 for three per week. Patricipants also may pay one day at a time, at $6 per day.

Wrestling clinics underway
Oneonta State will host its annual wrestling clinic series Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 25 in the Chase PE Building Wrestling Room.
The clinic for elementary-school wrestlers runs from 6-7 p.m., followed by middle- and high-school wrestlers from 7-8 p.m. Cost is $45 per athlete.
O-State also will hold its Red Dragon Wrestling Festival at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Entry fee is $15 per wrestler. Divisions for the double-elimination tournament run from ages 6-and-under to over-19 (open). Clinics will be offered at no additional cost and run all day during the festival.

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens is accepting sign-ups for its winter simulator golf league.
Two-person teams compete weekly in a captain-and-mate format. Play ends next week. Playing times are flexible as teams may on weekdays of their choice from week to week.
Weekly fees are $10 per person. A one-time fee of $20 per person is also required to pay for prize money (110-percent cash payout).

The Oneonta Country Club will hold an informational meeting for its Thursday Night League at 7 p.m. April 4 in the restaurant, following open play.
The league, which features two-person teams and is open to the public, runs from April 11-Aug. 29. Teams may tee off in the early division (from 2:30-4 p.m.) or the late division (4-6 p.m.).

Pitch, Hit & Run is April 9
SUNY Cobleskill will host a Scotts/Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run local qualifier at 6 p.m. April 9 at the colleges baseball and softball fields.

Cycling event April 21
The Central New York Cyclists will host the annual "Check Your Legs" Spring Classic on April 21.
The race starts at 11 a.m. in Garrattsville and is open to experienced and beginning racers. Experienced racees ride 38 miles or three laps over a hilly course. Beginners ride 26 miles or 2 laps.
A USA Cycling racing license is required to compete. Beginners may buy a one-day license.

City softball starts soon
The Oneonta Recreation Department will accept registrations for its men's and women's softball leagues through April 26.
Men will play Tuesdays and Thursdays starting May 21. Women will play Mondays and Wednesdays beginning May 20. Players must be age 18 or older. Each 14-game regular season will be followed by a postseason tournament for all teams.
Teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each manager must submit a completed registration form, a $400 entry fee and a $92 refundable forfeit bond to the recreation office. Checks or money orders must be made payable to the City of Oneonta. Cash will not be accepted.
Each team will pay its umpire $23 before each game. The forfeit bond will be used to pay an umpire if a team fails to show up for a scheduled game. Forfeit bond balances will be refunded at the end of the season.
Both leagues will hold preseason meetings April 24 at the Laskaris Skatehouse in Neahwa Park. Women will meet at 7 p.m., followed by men at 8 p.m.

Rat Snake registration open
Registration is open for the 2013 Rat Snake, a triathlon held in honor of the late Dr. Ken Stalter.
The event, which is scheduled for May 18, will feature professional timing. The triathlon/team triathlon will begin at 7 a.m., followed by the trail run at 10 a.m. and the 3-kilometer jog/stroll at noon.

Catskill Mountains Junior Golf, a new organization, will offer a major junior golf programs at the Meadows Golf Center in Margaretville and Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin this year.
The courses will host junior golf clinic days, a championship day and a parent/junior tournament in July.
The main program will be followed by a season-ending banquet and awards day at Mine Kill State Park in North Blenheim.

Outlaws seeking host families
The Oneonta Outlaws are seeking families to host one or more players this summer.
Each host family will receive $300 per player, which will be paid by the Outlaws upon arrival. Host families also will receive a $100 voucher per player. Vouchers may be used to buy food and/or souvenirs at Damaschke Field.
