O-State women's tennis splits weekend matches

Visiting Oneonta State went 1-1 in women’s tennis over the weekend, following a 6-3 defeat of Brockport on Friday with a 9-0 loss to Geneseo on Saturday.

Victories by Brynne Sussman and Lauren Skolnick at first doubles and Emily Maggiore and Colette Lankowicz at second doubles gave the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead entering singles play against Brockport. All four followed with singles wins in straight sets.

O-State lost all of its singles matches in straight sets against Geneseo, which also swept doubles play.

The Red Dragons host Cortland today.

Onondaga 5, Delhi 4

Amanda Distin earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Holly Gor at second singles and teamed with Cooperstown graduate Alison Angerer for an 8-2 win at first doubles, but visiting SUNY Delhi lost Sunday.

At sixth singles, Delhi’s Tracey Keilbach downed Haley Evert, 6-4, 6-2, to earn her first college victory.

The Broncos (0-2) will compete in the Mercer Invitational on Friday in Trenton, N.J.


Women’s Tennis

Hartwick College junior Nicole Schepisi earned Empire 8 Conference women’s tennis player of the week honors, the Hawks announced Monday.

Schepisi earned singles and doubles wins against Alfred and St. John Fisher over the weekend. Against Alfred, Schepisi beat Rachel Cook, 6-2, 6-2, at second singles and then teamed with Ruthie Jones for a 9-0 win over Brennan Ferguson and Emily Eisenberger at first doubles to help the Hawks to a 9-0 triumph.

In a 5-4 loss to St. John Fisher, Schepisi earned a 7-5, 7-5 win over Sania Zaki to improve to 4-1 in singles play. Schepisi and Jones downed Katie Paier and Zaki, 8-4, at first doubles.

Hartwick travels to Union on Wednesday.

Men’s Golf

SUNY Cobleskill freshman Ian Wilson was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference’s player of the week for men’s golf, the Fighting Tigers announced Monday.

It marks the second time Wilson has won the award this season.

Wilson shot a 3-over 73 in the Cobleskill Fall Invitational at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club to place third in the 42-player field and lead the Fighting Tigers to the title in the seven-team event.

Cobleskill will travel to the Long Island National Golf Club for the Dowling Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
