“At halftime, we talked about moving the ball on the ground and we were able to do that,” said Gates, whose team improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. “We outshot them, 10-4, after halftime.”
Walton will travel to Delhi at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Unatego 1, Sidney 1
Tristin Roefs scored halfway through the first half to lead Unatego to a Midstate Athletic Conference tie at home. Teammate Johnathan Forte headed the ball off a cross, allowing Roefs to score from close range.
Sidney’s Tyler McKee tied the scored with 11 minutes left with a 20-yard shot off a pass from Justin Charles.
Wyatt McKee finished with 18 saves for the Warriors.
“We possessed the ball well, we just couldn’t finish,” said Spartans coach Eric Miller, whose team held a 22-6 advantage in shots.
Unatego (4-0-2, 3-0-2) plays at Unadilla Valley on Friday.
Greene 2, UV 0
Karl Zaengle and Luke Day scored in the first five minutes as Greene earned a MAC victory on the road.
Zaengle opened the scoring 1:21 into the game with a shot that hit the crossbar and broke the goal line after catching the back of goalie Kyle King’s head.
“Kyle judged it well and jumped to ensure it wasn’t in,” UV coach Ryan Houck said. “It was one of those fluky things that I’ve never seen happen before.”
Zaengel then took advantage of a defensive breakdown at the endline and found Luke Day unguarded at the 6-yard line for an uncontested goal 4:33 into the game.
Conor Moriarity made five saves for the shutout. King made a diving stop from close range and finished with seven saves for UV, which visits Norwich today.
ODY 5, Cooperstown 1
Tanner Clinton converted a pass from Park Summers in the opening half, but visiting Cooperstown fell in the Center State Conference.
Bradlee Edick finished with three goals and an assist for Owen D. Young (4-0, 3-0), which took a 4-1 lead into the second half.
