Vermont’s Salvatore Borea scored in the 64th minute Saturday, sending Hartwick College to a 1-0 men’s soccer loss on the road.
The Hawks (1-5-2) finished the first half with an 8-1 advantage in shots, but the Catamounts (6-1-2) responded with a 9-3 edge in the second half.
“We lost to a more committed team,” Hartwick coach John Scott said. “They raised their game in the second half to shut us down and disrupt the rhythm we established in the first half. The goal affected our way in the game and we couldn’t find our way back. I’m disappointed we couldn’t rise above it.”
Borea scored off a long throw-in to the 6-yard box by Luke Salmon, flicking a header past Hartwick goalkeeper Mateo Munarriz (one save).
Hartwick hoss UMass-Lowell at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore Field.
