Hartwick men edged by Vermont; O-State cruises


Angerer and Distin, who topped Lauren Demerevs and Melanie Marino, moved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in Region III. Delhi coach Charlie Mole said his top doubles team will be seeded first or second and receive a first-round bye for the Region III Tournament, which the Broncos will host Oct. 12-13.

Delhi (2-3) hosts Herkimer County Community College on Tuesday.


Oneonta State finished the first of three SUNYAC Pool Play weekends with a 1-2 record after splitting two matches Saturday at Cortland.

After falling to Potsdam on Friday, the Red Dragons (9-10) swept Oswego, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23, then lost to the host school, 25-20, 25-15, 25-20, on Saturday.

Bridget McHugh had eight kills and five blocks against Oswego, and Becca Horton finished with 15 assists. Kristina Pelaccio contributed 14 digs as well.

Against Cortland, Jill Darpino had eight kills, Horton finished with 11 assists and Pelaccio had nine digs.

O-State is off until Oct. 8, when it visits Hartwick for a non-conference match.

Region III

SUNY Delhi went 2-1 during Saturday’s NJCAA Division III Region III matches at Broome Community College.

Raven Worthing had 13 kills, 13 digs and four aces to lead the Broncos to a 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 defeat of Hudson Valley in their opener. Karissa Morey finished with 20 assists and seven digs for Delhi, which received eight kills and eight digs from Hailie Chandler.

Worthing then had 15 digs and Nicole DeMarco contributed five kills in a 25-17, 25-12, 25-15 loss to SUNY Adirondack.

The Broncos (7-9, 4-6 Region III) closed with a 25-9, 25-8, 25-10 victory over Columbia-Greene. Worthing amassed 12 aces and six kills, Morey had six kills and five assists, and Casey Haughney contributed seven assists and four kills.

Delhi hosts Tompkins Cortland on Tuesday.
