SUNY Delhi knocked off visiting Broome Community College, 1-0, Saturday before falling on the road to Holyoke, 4-2, Sunday.
In Saturday’s win over a Hornets squad that brought the No. 1 ranking among NJCAA Division III teams into the game, Nicole Welcome scored the game’s lone goal, 2:15 before halftime.
Welcome received a pass from Amanda Petfield and scored on a 12-yard shot that hit the far post and deflected over the line. It was third goal allowed this season by BCC (8-1-1).
Lauren Renaud made seven in the shutout for the Broncos.
Against Holyoke, Delhi took a 2-1 lead late in the first half on a goal by Margaretville graduate Megan McKenna. Teta Roberts set up McKenna’s goal.
In the second half, Nicole Callini scored with 35 minutes left to give Holyoke a 3-2 lead. She volleyed in a corner kick on the run. Callini finished with two goals.
The Broncos (5-4), who also received a goal from Welcome in the first half, will travel to North Country on Saturday.
ITA Northeast Championships
Brynn Sussman went 2-2 in singles play and teamed with Lauren Skolnick to go 1-2 in doubles for Oneonta State during the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships at William Smith College over the weekend.
Emily Maggiore, a senior, also competed in singles for the Red Dragons, finishing 0-2. Sussman, Maggiore and Skolnick became the first O-State players to compete in the tournament since 2004.
Sussman, a junior, and Skolnick, a senior, nearly advanced to the second round of the doubles brackets. Facing the eighth-seeded team of Lauren Stauffer and Winnie Yeates of Vassar, Sussmann and Skolnick fell, 9-8.
The Red Dragons will host Scranton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Cobleskill athlete of the week
Freshman Taylor Tommell has been named SUNY Cobleskill’s athlete of the week.
Tommell, a freshman cross-country runner, finished seventh out 139 runners in the SUNYIT Wildcat Weekend Classic at Utica. Tommell completed the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 29 seconds.
Cobleskill will travel to the Mount Saint Mary’s Invitational at 11 a.m. Saturday.
