Herkimer County Community College inducted Oneonta High graduate Eileen Coyle into its Athletic Hall of Fame last Friday during the college’s Fall Fest & Alumni Weekend.
Women’s soccer standout Coyle, who graduated from HCCC in 2007, joined Jeanne Galvin, Cynthia Wetmore, Todd Allen, John Fornino and the Generals’ 1987 national champion field hockey team in the Class of 2013, which marked Herkimer’s second Hall of Fame class.
A two-time First Team NJCAA All-American, Coyle earned Mohawk Valley Collegiate Conference Player of the Year honors in 2005 and 2006. She had 29 goals and seven assists en route to First Team All-Region and National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American accolades in 2005. The following season, Coyle had 43 goals and 15 assists in 19 games in an NSCAA All-American season as captain of the Generals.
Coyle went on to become the leading scorer for SUNY Geneseo in 2007 and played for the Blue Knights’ SUNY Athletic Conference championship team in 2010. She then played professionally for Rochester Ravens FC in the W-League of the United Soccer Leagues from 2010-2011.
The Daily Star selected Coyle as its co-Player of the Year for high school girls soccer in 2004 as she shared the award with former OHS teammate Breanna Gault.
Coyle had 16 goals and 16 assists in an all-state senior season in 2004 for the Yellowjackets, who capped a 16-4-3 campaign with a 2-0 loss to Rockville Centre South Side in the Class A state championship game.
