Golf tourney set for Oct. 13
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host an impossible pin tournament at 10 a.m. Oct. 13.
The captain-and-crew event is open to the public and costs $35 per person, which includes greens fees, cart fee and prize money.

Sandberg to appear at Hall
Baseball Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg will take part in the Cooperstown museum’s fifth annual Character and Courage weekend, which continues Saturday and Sunday.
Character and Courage weekend will run in conjunction with the Hall’s nationwide launch of its “Be A Superior Example” program. The BASE program is an educational outreach initiative designed to promote healthy habits for people of all ages.
Sandberg will participate in a Voices of the Game event in the Grandstand Theater at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are required and cost $10 for adults and $5 for youths under age 12. Tickets are available by calling 607-547-0397.
Sandberg also will deliver the keynote address at a skills clinic for youths ages 7-18 scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The clinic is free for museum visitors, but participants must register in advance by calling 607-547-0397.
Sandberg is a 2005 Hall of Fame inductee who has managed the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the Phillies organization for the last two seasons.
Hartwick hoops clinics set
The Hartwick College women’s basketball team will run two clinics in October.
The One-Day Clinic is set for 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Lambros Arena and is for youths in grades 3-8. Cost is $25 per child.
Hartwick also will host the Elite Players Clinic from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Lambros Arena. Girls in grades 9-12 may participate. Cost is $65 per player.

The Cooperstown Soccer Club will hold tryouts at the Clark Sports Center fields in Cooperstown on Oct. 13 at the following times.
1 p.m.: Boys U10, Girls U10 (grades 3-4)
2 p.m.: Boys U12, Girls U12 (grades 5-6)
3 p.m.: Boys U14, Girls U14 (grades 7-8)
The CSC travel teams play in the Broome County Soccer Association Spring League. Travel teams are organized by grade, but eligibility is based upon age.

Unatego boosters host 5K
The Unatego Booster Club will host the first Sprintin’ for Spartans 5K Run at 10 a.m. Oct. 14 at Unatego Jr.-Sr. High.
Registration runs from 8:15-9:45 a.m. Cost is $10 in advance and $15 on race day. The first 70 runners will receive shirts. Proceeds will benefit the Unatego Booster Club.

Hoop Mountain NY will host its Fall Basketball Clinic from 1:30-5 p.m. Oct. 21 at Schenevus High.
Former WNBA and Boston College player Amber Jacobs will run the clinic, which is for boys and girls ages 8-18.

Elks Hoop Shoot set for Nov. 10
The Oneonta Elks Lodge will hold its annual Elks Hoop Shoot at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club at 10 a.m. Nov. 10.
This free-throw competition is open to boys and girls ages 8-13 who will be those ages on April 1, 2013. Birth certificates are required on the day of competition.
Winners will advance to district competition, which will be followed by regional, state and national rounds. The National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., will host the national finals.
