Beers followed with a “left-footed rocket” about 10 minutes later, leading to a 2-0 cushion for the Purple Devils (10-2) at the break. Beers also scored off a punt from goalie Haley Downin (six saves) and capped it on a direct kick with 15 minutes left.
Haley Downin earned her eighth shutout of the season.
“Alexis Hurlburt has had a real solid season and she’s kind of the backbone of our back line,” Laing said of his junior center back. “With her and Haley in goal, that’s our fifth shutout in six games.”
Franklin hosts Edmeston on Tuesday. The Tri-Valley League game will double as a Kicks for Cancer game. The Purple Devils will wear pink and accept donations on behalf of the American Cancer Society.
Schenevus 4, Worcester 1
Sarah Mellor had two goals and an assist as Schenevus won a road game in the Tri-Valley League.
Sierra Bentley and Alyssa Turner also scored for the Dragons.
Nikki Estro scored for Worcester (2-9, 2-8), which is at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Wednesday.
Unatego 3, Greene 0
Robin Foster made five saves for her 11th shutout of the season as Unatego rolled to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory on the road Thursday night.
“Up until the last couple of games, it’s been mostly our defense,” said Unatego coach Sue Herodes, whose team has allowed one goal this season – in a 4-1 championship victory over Schoharie during the Spartans’ Kyle Sharpe Tournament on Sept. 15. “But Robin has come up pretty big for us as well. They’re a good (defensive unit) and they all work together extremely well.”
Juli Carbone opened the scoring on a rebound goal with 22:51 left in the first half. Tanner Reed and Torri Halaquist also scored for the Spartans (11-0-1, 5-0), who visit Windsor for a non-league game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
