Late College Roundup


Stevens 8, Hartwick 1

Ruth Jones won her sixth straight match, beating Nathalie Tran, 6-0, 4-6, 10-7, at sixth singles in Hartwick’s lone point in an Empire 8 Conference road loss.

Hartwick (5-7, 4-3) earned the fourth seed for the E8 Tournament and will play top-seeded Ithaca in a semifinal Oct. 20.

Stevens (7-3) is 5-2 in conference.


Union Interleague


Oneonta State went 1-3 at the Union College Interleague Challenge, falling to Union College, Keene State and Skidmore on Friday, and beating Lehman College on Saturday.

Senior Kacy Boburka had 10 kills in the Red Dragons’ 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 loss to Union. Kristina Pelaccio contributed 17 digs for O-State, which is 13-8.

Keene swept O-State, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19. Kaitlyn Vishneowski had 14 assists and Pelaccio finished with 15 digs.

In a 25-20, 25-12, 25-16 loss to Skidmore, Erica Darpino had seven kills and Pelaccio contributed 10 digs. Becca Horton finished with 16 assists.

O-State beat Lehman, 25-11, 25-12, 25-23. Bridget McHugh and Jill Darpino had six kills apiece, and Brittany Calvello finished with 10 assists.

The Red Dragons will compete at St. Joseph’s on Friday and Saturday.

Hartwick splits

Hannah Strom had 12 kills and Britney Lintner contributed 19 assists to lead Hartwick to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 Empire 8 Conference victory over Alfred on Saturday at Stevens.

It marked the Hawks’ first E8 victory of the season.

Shannon McGee and Dana Martin had 11 assists and seven digs, respectively, for Hartwick, which lost, 25-10, 25-15, 25-20, to Elmira earlier Saturday.

Martin had six kills, Lintner contributed 13 assists and Brianna Eckert had 11 digs for Hartwick (6-12, 1-3), which will host the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Invitational this weekend.

NEAC Tournament

SUNY Cobleskill went 3-1 during the North Eastern Athletic Conference Divisional Play Weekend at Cazenovia.

On Saturday, the Fighting Tigers (10-10, 3-5) defeated Morrisville, 25-21, 25-14, 21-25, 25-12 before falling, 25-9, 25-23, 25-22 to Keuka College.

The following day, Cobleskill beat Wells, 25-15, 27-29, 25-11, 25-13, and then downed Cazenovia, 25-10, 25-17, 25-16.

Against Morrsiville, Amanda Baker led the way with 15 kills and 10 digs.

Oneonta High graduate Kim Cordova had 16 digs in the loss to Keuka.
