Hall of Fame Briefs

(Continued)

At the Hall workshop, students will work to create a baseball experience on Mars – factoring in the extreme Martian environment and the physical aspects of the red planet while imagining what life may be like on it.

Working with NASA educators, scientists and Hall staff, students will be asked to create uniforms, stadiums, marketing, concessions and new baseball rules. Within each category, students will work together to devise a way that baseball can be played on Mars.

Cost of the workshop is $10 per student, which includes materials, supplies and lunch and beverages provided by Price Chopper. The first 50 students to register will be accepted. A parent or guardian must be present to register and pick up the student April 27. Parents are welcome to attend the Imagine Mars Project Showcase from 3-5 p.m.

For more information or to register, call 607-547-0313.

BASE Race set for Aug. 11

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host the second annual BASE Race on Aug. 11.

The event features a competitive 10K race at 8 a.m. and a family-style 5-kilometer run at 8:15 a.m. Both events start and finish at the CSC.

Registration is $25 for adults and $50 for families until race day, when registration will be $40 for individuals and $65 for families.

Proceeds support outreach for the “Be A Superior Example” program, which promotes the concepts of healthy lifestyle choices by educating students about the dangers of performance-enhancing substances.

Registration is underway online at www.baseballhall.org/BASERace and www.clarksportscenter.com.

The Hall also will hold a pre-race gathering for runners Aug. 10. Details will be released later this spring.

For more information, call the Hall at 607-547-0397 or the CSC at 607-547-2800.
