HONORS

Women’s Water Polo

Hartwick College junior Sami Capparelli and freshman Michaela Davies received weekly honors from the Collegiate Water Polo Association, the Hawks announced Wednesday.

Capparelli earned Western Division Player of the Week accolades and Davies was named Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week.

Capparelli had 17 goals and three steals last week, when the Hawks went 4-1. They beat Siena, 19-7; Brown, 15-6; 15th-ranked Michigan, 10-6; and CSU-Bakersfield, 14-8. Hartwick lost, 10-7, to third-ranked Arizona State. The last four games were part of the Brown Invitational.

Davies stopped 42 shots during the invitational, including 12 saves against the Wolverines.

Hartwick is the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s Western Divisional Championships at Notre Dame College. The Hawks will face the Falcons at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a match with Gannon University at 4 p.m.

Men’s Lacrosse

The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference selected Hartwick senior attackman Harry Hughes as its Mid-Atlantic Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Hughes scored five times in a 12-8 win at Elmira this past Saturday to become Hartwick’s top scorer in the program’s 49-year history. His fifth goal gave him 176 in four seasons, one better than Ian Ritcey’s record of 175 set in 1995.

Hughes has a conference-best 36 goals and nine assists for 45 points this season. He also leads the Empire 8 Conference in man-up goals and shots, and he ranks sixth in the country in scoring.

Hartwick hosts E8 rival Nazareth at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s Swimming

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America has recognized the Oneonta State women’s swimming and diving team as a Scholar All-America Team for the 2012 fall semester.

The honor marks the fourth time the program has been honored for its performance in the classroom, the first coming in the fall of 2009.

The Red Dragons completed a 2-3 dual-meet season before finishing fifth at the SUNY Athletic Conference Championships with a program-record 353 points.

Oneonta was one of 115 Division III women’s programs honored and one of five from the SUNYAC. The team had a cumulative GPA of 3.05 for the fall semester. A minimum team GPA of a 3.0 for the semester is required to receive this honor.
