Franklin girls still in it; Downsville clinches division


Gilboa goalie Brooke Koerner had 10 saves, including two in overtime.

Katie Lawrence stopped 10 shots for Downsville (12-0-2, 7-0-1), which closes its regular season Monday against visiting South Kortright.

Margaretville 4, Delhi 0

Tess Svoboda had three goals and an assist as Delaware League Upper Delaware champion Margaretville cruised to a non-league win at home.

Cora Bruno contributed a goal and an assist for the Blue Devils (10-3-1), who outshot Midstate Athletic Conference affiliate Delhi, 19-3.

Alexis Molnar made three saves for Margaretville, which hosts Davenport on Monday and will play Delaware Mountain champion Downsville in the DL title game Oct. 20 at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta.

Note: Margaretville coach Toni Smith said Bruno earned an assist on Elia Tanzer’s goal Wednesday, when the Blue Devils tied Downsville, 1-1. Bruno was not credited with an assist in Thursday’s edition of The Daily Star.

Stamford 9, Jefferson 0

Kim Freer and Erin Hull had two goals apiece as visiting Stamford rolled to a Delaware League victory.

Nikki McGrath made four saves in the shutout for the Indians, who finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots.

The winless J-Hawks, whose season ended Friday, faced a 6-0 deficit at halftime.

Milford 5, RS 0

Kaley Chase scored three goals to lead the host Wildcats to a Tri-Valley League win.

Chase opened the scoring on a 6-yard goal inside the near post with 24 minutes left in the first half.

Addy Lawson contributed two assists for Milford (9-2-2, 7-2-2), which visits Worcester on Monday.

Edmeston 4, G-MU 2

Kelsey Bressett, Shelby McCall, Savanna Fistrowicz and Danielle Ruffles scored to lead host Edmeston to a Tri-Valley League win.

Gilbertsville Mount-Upton jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals by Lauren Hill (9:20 in) and Marissa Mehlrose (22:48 in).

Bressett converted a pass from Brianna Dunham less than two minutes later, and McCall tied it in the 28th minute.
