Katrina Clark opened and closed the scoring Thursday, leading unbeaten Unatego to a 4-0 girls soccer victory at Sidney that clinched the Midstate Athletic Conference championship for the Spartans.

“They’re at a different level than us at this point,” Sidney coach Jody Gravelin said of Unatego, which won its second straight MAC title and will enter the Section Four Class C Tournament next week as the top seed.

“They’re a very disciplined team,” she continued. “They play with such finesse, they’re a great passing team and they like to control the ball.”

Clark headed in a cross from Torri Halaquist to give the Spartans (15-0-1, 7-0) a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the MAC regular-season finale for both teams. Sarah Mannina made it 2-0 with nine minutes left in the first half, heading in a free, bouncing ball in front of the Warriors’ goal.

Mariah Scott followed a punch save by Sidney goalie Jolene Krom (five saves) for an unassisted goal with 14 minutes left, and Clark converted a pass from Hezel Haehnel with 2:20 remaining to cap the scoring.

Robin Foster made four saves for the shutout against second-place Sidney (8-6, 5-2), which was outshot, 11-7, but finished with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Gravelin said Sidney picked up a non-league “game or a scrimmage” at Whitney Point on Monday. The sixth-seeded Warriors will then head to No. 3 Lansing for a first-round sectional game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Delhi 5, Walton 1

Makayla Ruchar scored in the first half and Melissa Conrad had two second-half goals as Delhi cruised to a MAC victory at home on Senior Night.

Ruchar and Casey Steffens each finished with one goal and one assist for the Bulldogs (6-9-1, 4-3), who received two assists from Kaitlin Haynes.

Kelsey Smith scored in the second half for Walton.

Krissy Wells had 20 assists during Oneonta High’s Senior Appreciation Night, which ended with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-23 loss to visiting Owego in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

Kelsey Baker had five kills and fellow senior Amelia Spaziani contributed five digs for the Yellowjackets (11-3, 11-3), who received eight kills from Brittney Herrick. Baker and Herrick had two blocks apiece.

The STAC semifinals open at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with Vestal visiting Owego and Oneonta hosting Horseheads.

Winners will play for the title Thursday at the school with the larger enrollment.
