Better late than never.

Kelcy Forbragd and Suzanne Wright scored inside the last two minutes of the first half Wednesday, leading the Oneonta State field hockey team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over visiting Utica.

The Pioneers (11-5) opened the scoring in the fifth minute, when Louis Steele-Norton dribbled into the circle before beating O-State goalie Tess Tracy. Utica took two more shots the rest of the game, both in the first half, as Tracy finished with two saves for her ninth win of the season.

Forbragd scored the equalizer with a little less than two minutes left in the first half. She took a deflection off a defender’s stick and scored inside the far post.

Wright followed with a rebound goal to make it 2-1 with 9 seconds to go in the opening half. Wright’s shot off an initial pad save by Kells Casey (nine saves) marked her team-best 12th goal of the season.

Second-year captain Bridgette Robinson, a senior, scored her first college goal off an assist by classmate Ashley Johnson in the 65th minute for the Red Dragons (10-6), who have won at least 10 games for the third straight season.

Johnson has a team-high nine assists for Oneonta, which hosts Union at 4 p.m. Friday.
