OHS lacrosse drops opener

Oneonta High’s lacrosse team opened its season with an 18-4 Section Four loss to Whitney Point on Wednesday at Hartwick College.

Sam Sherrill had two goals, and Luke Anderson and Jeremy Leary also scored for the Yellowjackets, who trailed, 11-3, at halftime.

Joe Sherrill made eight saves for OHS.

“They definitely have a good team,” OHS coach Jeff Armer said of the Golden Eagles. “They had their whole attack line back from last season. We have a lot of inexperience on our team for sure. The returners we do have have to act like coaches on the field. It’s just a matter of figuring everything out. A lot of little things were not taken care of.”

Armer, whose team is coming off a 5-11 season that included the Yellowjackets’ first appearance in sectional play, is carrying 33 players on his roster.

“There are a lot of new guys,” said Armer, whose team lost four starters off of last year’s team.

The Yellowjackets will host Owego on April 3.
