Oneonta High’s Brittney Herrick is a two-time all-state volleyball selection, and she still has one season to go.
Junior middle hitter Herrick made the Class B all-state Fourth Team for the second straight season, OHS coach Lee Ferrara announced Thursday. Ferrara said the teams were released earlier this month.
Herrick finished the season with team-bests of 179 kills and 60 blocks, helping the Yellowjackets (14-5) to championship-match appearances in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference and Section Four Class B tournaments.
“She’s on pace to blow away the (all-time) school records,” Ferrara said of the 6-foot-tall Herrick, a state qualifier in the outdoor high jump who is a member of Oneonta’s indoor track team this winter. “She’s like two games away from breaking them. By the end of next season, those records are probably going to be untouchable for a very long time.”
OHS senior Kelsey Baker holds both school records, with 371 kills and 134 blocks all-time. Herrick will enter her senior season with 350 kills and 126 blocks.
Herrick was one of 24 all-state selections in Class B. She and senior setter Lauren Edwards of Owego, which beat OHS in the STAC and sectional title games, are the only Section Four all-state players in Class B.
Longtime Horseheads coach Patti Perone said Thursday that all-state teams in classes AA, A, B and C were selected by a group of coaches during state championship weekend, which ran Nov. 17-18 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
