Laurens to battle cancer Saturday
A full day of basketball will coincide with Laurens’ Coaches vs. Cancer day Saturday, beginning with fifth- and sixth-grade games at 9 a.m. and ending with Laurens’ boys varsity team hosting Franklin at 7 p.m.
Between, there will be a boys modified game at 1 p.m., a girls modified game at 2:30 p.m., a boys junior varsity game at 4 p.m. and a girls varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations would be appreciated. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
The event also will feature a bake sale, concessions and raffles throughout the day. Among the items to be raffled are signed basketballs by North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and former New York Knicks guard John Starks.

Davenport alumni game Saturday
The Davenport National Honor Society will host its first alumni basketball game at 5 p.m. Saturday.
This is a first-come, first-play event as there is a limit to how many people can play. All Davenport alumni are eligible to play in the event, which is open to the public.
Those who are not playing are asked to bring canned foods or pay a fee for admission.

The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown is taking registration for their Individual Winter/Spring Futsal League, which will run Sunday nights.
Cost is $60 for non-members and $25 for members.

O-State Kids Day
is Jan. 19
Oneonta State will host its third annual Kids in Sports Day at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 at Alumni Field House.
The day will be split into two sessions with a break for lunch and conclude at 1:45 p.m. with a question-and-answer featuring Red Dragons student-athletes. Soccer, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse and field hockey are the featured sports this year.
The event is free for children ages 4-13. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.

Pitching camp starts Jan. 27
The 2013 Oneonta Pitching Camp for girls ages 8-18 will run consecutive Sundays from Jan. 27-March 3 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.
Session I is for advanced pitchers, Session II is for intermediate and Session III is for beginners. There are limited openings for Session I, which runs from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and costs $200. Pitchers must possess the basic fundamentals and mechanics of windmill pitching.
Sessions II and III are $85 each. Session II runs from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Session III runs from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Umpires to hold meeting Jan. 27
Local chapters of the Schohanna Board of Baseball/Softball Umpires will hold their first business meeting of the season at 10 a.m. Jan. 27 in Lecture Hall 1 of Oneonta State’s IRC Building.

Ice fishing clinic
set for Jan. 26
The Otsego County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Otschodela Council BSA and NYSDEC are co-sponsoring a free Ice Fishing Clinic at Henderson Scout Reservation on Crumhorn Lake from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 26.
This event is geared towards kids and those who are new to the sport. Species available include sunfish, pickerel, crappie and perch.
A warming area, food, bait and some tackle will be provided. Some tackle will be available.

O-State to host baseball clinics
Oneonta State will host two high school baseball clinics at Alumni Field House this winter.
The Red Dragons will hold a pitchers/catchers clinic Jan. 27 and a hitting/defense clinic Feb. 3. Registration for both runs from 11:15 a.m.-noon, followed by the clinic from noon-3 p.m.
Cost is $35 per camper for one clinic or $60 per camper for both. The clinics are designed for high school players who will graduate during the 2013-2016 time period.

Youth soccer forms due March 1
Registration forms for the Oneonta Youth Soccer Association’s spring recreational program will be distributed through Oneonta elementary schools and are due March 1. Forms also are available at Latte Lounge on Main Street in Oneonta.

Rat Snake registration open
Registration is open for the 2013 Rat Snake, a triathlon held in honor of the late Dr. Ken Stalter.
The event, which is scheduled for May 18, will feature professional timing. The triathlon/team triathlon will begin at 7 a.m., followed by the trail run at 10 a.m. and the 3-kilometer jog/stroll at noon.
The triathlon and trail run will be limited to 100 participants. The team triathlon will be limited to 10 teams.
