Laurens 46, Edmeston 37
The host Leopards went 6-for-7 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to earn a Tri-Valley League victory.
For the game, Laurens went 14-for-23 from the line. Edmeston finished 4-for-14 from the line.
“Our goal during the season is we want to make as many free throws as the other team attempts,” Laurens coach Andy Carr said. “We did that tonight.”
Laurens (5-5, 3-3) outscored Edmeston, 27-19, in the second half. Pheonix Howard scored all eight of his points after halftime. Ryan Holmes had 11 points and six assists, and Mitchell Barra contributed eight points and 13 rebounds for the Leopards, who will host Franklin at 7 p.m. Saturday in their Coaches vs. Cancer night.
Logan Vibbard had nine points to lead the Panthers.
Franklin 44, G-MU 36
All 16 of Derek Beers’ points came as Franklin built a 15-point halftime lead and the host Purple Devils hung on for a Tri-Valley League victory.
Beers hit four three-pointers before halftime.
Gilbertsville-Mount Upton went to a box-and-one on Beers in the second half.
Tim French scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half for the Raiders, who narrowed their deficit to three points with about 3 ½ minutes left in the fourth quarter.
But Alex Brownell and Matt D’Angelo scored off inbounds plays to help Franklin restore its lead. Brownell finished with 15 points.
Franklin (2-4, 1-4) will travel to Laurens at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Margaretville 48, Stamford 42
With Margaretville holding a one-point lead and about 1:30 left, Kyle Short was fouled shooting a three-pointer and made all three free throws to help the visiting Blue Devils to a Delaware League victory.
Short scored nine points in the fourth quarter, including 6-for-7 from the line, as Margaretville outscored the Indians, 18-13.
“We didn’t take care of the ball,” Stamford coach Greg O’Connell said. “All year I’ve been pleased with my team being poised and we were not poised in the last three minutes tonight.”
