Junior guard Kate Purcell broke Hartwick’s all-time record for three-pointers as host Hartwick cruised to a non-league victory against a future Empire 8 Conference opponent on Friday.

Purcell’s second three-pointer of the night came with 5 minutes, 55 seconds left in the first half and gave the Hawks a 29-16 lead. It gave Purcell 118 threes and allowed her to pass Laura Shockro for first-place in school history. Shockro made 117 threes from 2001-05.

Hartwick (12-3) has won five straight. The Hawks are also the last unbeaten team in the E8 after St. John Fisher upset Ithaca, 63-59, on Friday.

Maria Foglia had 20 points to lead the Hawks, who received 18 points from Brittney Dumas.

Hartwick led throughout as Purcell’s record-tying three-pointer and a basket from Dumas gave the hosts a 5-0 advantage three minutes in. A three from Houghton’s Kaitlin Hammersley made it 11-7 at the 13:50 mark, but the Hawks quickly built their lead back up to double digits with six straight points.
