Oneonta High graduate Madie Harlem became the ninth player in Hamilton College women’s basketball history to score 1,000 points.

Harlem, a senior guard, scored her season high of 27 points to lead Hamilton to an improbable 56-55 New England Small College Athletic Conference victory at Middlebury on Friday.

The Continentals (8-9, 1-5) scored five points in the final 3 seconds, including a deep three-pointer that Harlem banked in with 2.7 seconds left to cut Hamilton’s deficit to 55-54.

Hamilton then forced a turnover on the ensuing inbound play and Samantha Graber’s layup with 0.3 remaining provided the winning points.

Harlem, who made 12 of her 20 shot attempts, finished the night with 1,011 points. She scored seven more in a 57-35 loss to Williams College on Sunday.

During her senior season at OHS, Harlem became the fourth Yellowjackets player in history to eclipse 1,000 points. The Daily Star’s Player of the Year as a senior when she averaged 18.2 points and led the Yellowjackets to a 25-1 record, Harlem graduated in 2009 with 1,161 points.

She ranks third in OHS history in points behind Krissy Zeh and former teammate Sienna Wisse.

This season, Harlem leads the Continentals in scoring (13.6 points per game), rebounding (5.8), assists (3.4), steals (39), blocks (8), free throw percentage (85 percent _ minimum of 10 attempts) and minutes (33.1).
