Pins lift O-State over King's

Host Oneonta State and King’s College split 10 matches, but the Red Dragons used three pins to earn a 27-16 non-conference wrestling victory Wednesday.

Ben Mikac (133 pounds), Dan Graff (157) and Chad Obzud (197) had the pins for O-State, which improved to 6-8 on the season. King’s is 4-8.

Obzud needed 1 minute, 58 seconds to stop Cemah Tudoe-Torboh for his 15th pin of the season. Obzud is among the leaders for pins among Division III wrestlers.

Graff finished Nathaniel Seals in 30 seconds and Mikac needed 1:47 to beat Jose Paramo.

Jared Usher also earned a win for the Red Dragons, who will travel to Ithaca College on Feb. 7.


Cobleskill 59, SUNYIT 56

Kady Porterfield had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead SUNY Cobleskill to a North Eastern Athletic Conference victory at home.

Porterfield’s layup with 39 seconds left gave Cobleskill a 57-53 lead. Alexis Hauser capped her 10-point night with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left as the Fighting Tigers took a six-point lead.

Heidi Anderson had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Tracee Schiebel contributed eight points and 12 rebounds for the Fighting Tigers (6-12), who improved to 5-7 in the NEAC.

SUNYIT (9-7) fell to 7-3 in the NEAC.


SUNYIT 67, Cobleskill 66

Mike Marcelin missed a jumper at the buzzer as host SUNY Cobleskill fell in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Alexis Nunez’s three-pointer with 1:07 to play pulled the Fighting Tigers to 67-66.

Nunez finished with a team-high 18 points. Unatego graduate Travis Woods was the only other Cobleskill player in double figures. He finished with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds.

Marcelin had eight points.

The Fighting Tigers (5-15) fell to 3-7 in conference.

T’Andre Richardson had 26 points to lead SUNYIT (6-13, 3-6).

Hamilton 69, O-State 66

Sophomore Zach Mager and freshman Jackson Zuvic scored 15 points apiece, but Oneonta State lost a non-conference road game Tuesday to fall to 2-16.

Hans Schulte hit a pair of free throws for the Continentals (10-10) with 3.8 seconds left to cap the scoring.

Freshman Jack Dignan missed a three-pointer at the buzzer for O-State.

Zuvic’s dunk with 1:21 to play brought Oneonta to 67-66.

The Red Dragons had two chances to take the lead but missed two three-pointers.

O-State will host Plattsburgh on Friday.

Stevens 62, Hartwick 55

Kyle Bradley and Christian Laputka scored 12 points apiece, but visiting Hartwick dropped an Empire 8 Conference road game Tuesday.

Stevens (16-3, 9-2) held Hartwick standout Jared Suderley to nine points. Suderley also had five turnovers and fouled out after playing 23 minutes.

Bradley contributed six rebounds and five steals, and Laputka had five steals, four rebounds and three assists for the Hawks, who upset then 20th-ranked Stevens at Hartwick last week.

Hartwick (11-9, 3-6) will travel to Utica on Tuesday.
