OHS boys struggle, fall to 0-2

JV consolation: Oneonta def. Seton.

Ernie Davis Classic

Oneonta High senior defensive back Jonathan Vega intercepted a pass in the end zone Wednesday, helping the East secure a 21-6 victory over the West in the 23rd

annual Ernie Davis Classic at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium.

Vega’s pick came on a fourth-down play in the third quarter as the East improved its all-time record against the West in the Section Four senior showcase to 16-7.

Delhi tight end Austin Gullow contributed a 15-yard catch that gave the East a first down at the 1-yard line and set up its second touchdown of the first period.

Harpursville’s Tim Petras coached the East squad, which included Bainbridge-Guilford’s Jacob Mazzarella; Oneonta’s Taharen Williams; Sidney’s Collin Brandl and Nate McDonald; Unadilla Valley’s Kody Homann; Unatego’s Tyler Butler, Derek Liner and David VanAlstine; and Walton's Mike Hogan.

CSC All-Stars

Cooperstown senior defender Alannah Haggerty and junior forward Maggie Hall earned First Team All-Star honors from the Center State Conference for the 2012 girls soccer season. Haggerty also made the Section Three All-Star Team.

The CSC recognized seniors Julie Dykstra, a midfielder, and defender Noelle Palmer as Second-Team All-Stars in Division III for the Redskins (8-8-1).

Minnie Webster completed her senior varsity girls soccer season last Sunday, when Oneonta High lost the Class B state final, 3-1 in overtime, to Greece-Odyssey. A list of OHS seniors that ran as part of the championship game story in Monday’s edition of The Daily Star did not include reserve Webster because of an oversight by the reporter.
