None of Worcester’s girls scored in double digits Tuesday, but it didn’t matter.
Jillian Perrillo had a team-best eight points for the Wolverines, who earned a 29-25 basketball victory over Edmeston in the Tri-Valley League opener for both teams.
Jessica Peeters scored five of her six points during a critical run as Worcester scored six consecutive points to snap a 21-all tie with 3 minutes, 30 seconds left.
Sydney Smith scored a game-high 14 points for the Panthers, who fell behind, 15-12, at halftime of their season opener.
Worcester (2-0, 1-0) hosts Morris on Dec. 14.
Downsville 41, Delhi 24
Kaileen Townsend had a team-high 12 points and seven steals as Downsville won a first-round game in the Walton Tip-Off Tournament.
Kaitlin Haynes scored a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs, who trailed, 19-10, at halftime.
Courtney Jennings contributed six points and a team-high 10 rebounds for Downsville (1-1), who will face Fallsburg in the championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Delhi will play Walton in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m.
Fallsburg 47, Walton 25
Cortney Miller had 11 points, 11 rebounds and five steals, but Walton lost in the first round of the Walton Tip-Off Tournament.
Nyasia Blakney had a game-high 18 points for Fallsburg, which held a 24-11 lead at the half.
JC 50, Sidney 22
Kelsey Decker scored six of her team-high 10 points in the second quarter, but host Sidney opened its season with a non-league loss.
Kristina Carpentieri scored a game-high 17 points for Johnson City, which rode an 18-8 second quarter to a 25-14 lead at halftime.
Sidney (0-1) visits Greene on Dec. 12.
Cooperstown 94, S-E 75
Aaron Idelson and Erik Mebust won two events apiece Monday as Cooperstown won at home.
Idelson placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.14) and diving (197.10 points) for the Redskins, who received victories from Mebust in the 200 free (2:01.59) and the 100 butterfly (1:07.90).
Idelson also swam the lead leg for the victorious 200 medley relay team (1:59.86), and Mebust anchored the winning 200 free relay squad (1:49.88).
Ryan Barrow had a 530 series and Keith Thayer finished with a 513 to lead Cooperstown’s boys to a victory over Waterville. The overall score was not reported.
Thayer’s series included the highest game of the match, a 227, and teammate Skyler Taylor contributed a 213.
Randy Jones’ 460 series paced Waterville.
At Fox Center
Hancock’s boys and girls swept Walton in a Midstate Athletic Conference match at Fox Bowling Center in Hancock.
Ryan Slatcher had a team-high game of 214 for Hancock, which outscored Walton 2,474 to 1,815.
Walton received team-best games of 235 and 213 from J.T. Smith.
Walton’s Julia Steitz rolled games of 224 and 194 en route to a match-high series of 541.
Hancock visits Sidney on Friday.
