Alec Picinich’s 16 points led Oneonta High to a 58-46 non-league boys basketball victory Tuesday at Unatego.
Twelve of Picinich’s points came in the first half, which ended with the Yellowjackets leading, 34-18.
Skylar Thompson contributed 14 points and Noah Sheehan’s eight-point night included two three-pointers for the Yellowjackets (2-3), who received nine points from Mitchel Couch.
Down, 48-24, after three quarters, Unatego rallied in the fourth, outscoring Oneonta 22-10, but it was “too little, too late” according to Spartans coach Jim Knight.
Quinn Barnhart and Tanner Winchester scored 12 points apiece for the Spartans (1-2), who’ll host Walton on Thursday.
Oneonta will play host to Chenango Valley on Friday.
Morris 52, CV-S 39
Mike DeLuca and Levi Decker finished with 19 and 18 points, respectively, to lead host Morris past a foul-prone Cherry Valley-Springfield squad in the Tri-Valley League.
“They had some foul trouble,” Morris coach Dave Sander said of the rematch of last season’s Tri-Valley League crossover final that Morris won, 55-40. “Their big guns, (Kyle) Jaquay and (Isiah) Montgomery, were in foul trouble. That was part of the reason. They lost their offensive threats. At the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth, they were both sitting.”
Decker hit four three-pointers and DeLuca contributed two from behind the arc.
“They played hard,” Sander of the Patriots. “They have a lot of new guys and we have a lot of old guys. We’re not up to where we should be right now.
“But they played hard,” he continued. “They rebounded really well. Montgomery is tough to keep off the glass.”
Jaquay scored 12 points and Montgomery finished with eight.
Morris (2-0, 1-0) will play host to Worcester on Friday.
Edmeston 56, Worcester 35
Logan Vibbard had 22 points, nine rebound and seven steals to lead host Edmeston to a Tri-Valley League victory.
