UV 27, Oxford 14
Three straight touchdowns that bridged the second and third quarters — the first two coming on Ryan Postma passes to Brett Hanslmeier — gave Mark Segina his first victory as coach of Unadilla Valley on Friday.
Segina, who coached Cooperstown to a 1-8 record last season, is in his first year as coach of the Storm.
Oxford opened the scoring in the first quarter of the non-division Section Four Football Conference game.
Mason Fernette set up UV’s first score by recovering a fumble on Oxford’s 37. Postma capped the scoring drive with a 19-yard pass over the middle to Hanslmeier to make it 7-6 in the second quarter.
UV (1-7) took the lead for keeps when Hanslmeier caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Postma on a slant. Hanslmeier’s PAT made it 13-7.
Alex Avolio, who rushed for 140 yards on 20 carries, scored on a 40-yard run on an off-tackle play to the left side as UV took a 19-7 lead.
The Blackhawks scored early in the fourth quarter to make it 19-14, but UV answered as Dillon Rifanburg capped a drive with a 1-yard scoring run. Avolio then caught a two-point pass from Postma to cap the scoring.
Postma completed eight passes for 129 yards. Hanslmeier finished with four catches for 53 yards.
The Storm will play undetermined opponent this weekend.
