VanSteenburg, Barse win Classic
Vic VanSteenburg and Mike Barse teamed to win the Susquehanna Bass Association’s biggest tournament of the year, the 20th Arthur-Nathan VanSteenburg Memorial Classic, last weekend on Otsego Lake.
The duo finished with a two-day total of 24.47 pounds, which included the big fish of Sunday, a 2.89-pound smallmouth bass caught by VanSteenburg.
Bruce Hall and Vince Fink finished with 23.76 pounds for second place in the tournament, which was open to fishermen who qualified during the regular season.
Bob Luther and Jim Clement took third place at 22.26 pounds. Luther caught the big smally for Saturday, a 3.16-pounder.
Lou Falvo and Dave Hubbard finished fourth (20.95 pounds); Allan and Peter Green placed fifth (20.79); and Amos Bates and Don Green were sixth (20.11). Bates reeled in the big fish of the tournament, a 5.06-pound largemouth bass.
Seventh place went to Phil Kroll and Eric Keller (15.63). They were followed by Frank Microni and Steve Llewellyn (14.18).
Deer shoot set for Sunday
The Bainbridge Sportsmen’s Club will host a deer shoot at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Rifles, shotguns and black-powder guns may be used. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m.-noon.

The club and the Chenango Federation also are accepting donations of deer hides. Proceeds will be used to send youths to DEC camps.
Deer hides may be dropped off at the club, which is located at 23 Pearl St. in Bainbridge.
Volleyball tourney seeks players
The Norwich Family YMCA is seeking teams for its “Thanks4Giving II” Open 6’s and Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 16.
Entry fee is $100 per six-player team, with $25 for each additional member. Players may register as individuals for $25 and will be placed on teams.
